DL Annual Lecture 2015 : Digital Democracy

With the General Election taking place 10 weeks after, the 2015 DL Annual Lecture in Parliament is titled “Digital Democracy”. Hosted by Chloe Smith MP, our lecturer is Dr. Ben Scott.

Dr Ben Scott is Interim Executive Director at the Stiftung Neue Verantwortung in Berlin and Senior Adviser to the Open Technology Institute at New America in Washington DC. Previously, he was Policy Adviser for Innovation at the US Department of State where he worked at the intersection of technology and foreign policy. In a small team of advisers to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he worked to help steward the 21′st Century Statecraft agenda with a focus on technology policy, social media and development. Prior to joining the State Department, for six years he led the Washington office for Free Press, the largest non-profit organization in the US dealing exclusively with media and communications policy.

After the lecture Chloe Smith MP will Chair a debate with the audience and panel of Digital Democracy experts including the Speaker of the House Commons, John Bercow MP, whose Commission on Digital Democracy has just released its ‘Open Up’ report. The evening will end with networking drinks in the Attlee Suite from 7:30pm
